Saturday, February 9th is National Toothache Day.

You know the signs.
Are patients complaining of a painful tooth that is made worse when eating hot, cold or sugary drinks? There may be discoloration or holes present on the affected tooth, which may cause annoying impaction of small food pieces. If the tooth has become infected, the patient’s face may appear swollen on the affected side.

You know the reason.
Odontalgia is our industry term for toothache pain generating from a tooth or multiple teeth. A toothache can make us miserable, making it difficult to eat, sleep or sometimes even talk. Since toothaches are never pleasant, celebrating National Toothache Day is an oxymoron, but there are ways you can celebrate toothache-free days by reminding patients to give their teeth and oral health attention on this day.

You know the solution.
Maintaining good oral health is the most important step to keep painful toothaches away along with avoiding sugary foods. So, remind everyone to make an appointment with their dentist to celebrate National Toothache Day and resolve to brushing and flossing at least twice every day.
